#CycleSafety | This evening, local officers came across several people riding bicycles on main roads across the Cannock Chase district with no lights, and in some cases without helmets. Thankfully, no accidents occurred — but the situation could easily have been catastrophic.

Many of these cyclists were barely visible to drivers, especially with the darker evenings and changing weather conditions.

Things to note:

🚲 Visibility can drop very quickly. Whether you're popping out for a short ride or travelling longer distances. 
🚲 Front and rear lights are essential. 
🚲 Make sure they are bright and working before you set off.
🚲 Wearing a helmet significantly reduces the risk of serious head injuries.
🚲 Bright or reflective clothing can make a huge difference.
🚲 Reflective bands, vests, and accessories help you stand out from all angles.
🚲 Don’t assume drivers can see you — position yourself where you can be noticed.
🚲 Avoid riding in blind spots and make your intentions clear.
